The Great Depression catapulted the entire world into an economic calamity like it had never seen before. It and the US government's response to it caused it to spread around the world. What happened then is, in many ways, a lot like what is happening right now in the world financial situation.

Go to GCSE/IGCSE History, and scroll down to The Wall Street Crash and the Depression. Do the first Interactive Exercise + worksheet. The worksheet is to be handed in, so be sure to follow the instructions clearly.
This is primarily a reading exercise that will provide you with the economic causes of World War II.

After completing the homework above, and listening to the lecture in class. Complete this exercise. Do not worry if you are unable to find three differences between the Great Depression and today's financial situation, but do try to find at least one.

The Political Ideologies of Communism and Fascism
The hammer and sickle is a symbol that dominated international politics for much of the 20th century. Communism, the ideology associated with that symbol, got its start in the Russian Revolution. Fasci, a bundle of sticks bound together to make a very strong object, became the symbol and namesake of fascism. The first leader for which was a man named Mussolini. He took power in Italy in the early 1920s.
World War II pitted these forces against each other. Truly it was a war with a strong undercurrent of ideology. Sadly, the next big conflict - not necessarily a war - the Cold War was still based on ideologies.
We will discuss these two ideologies next class. In preparation, please complete the homework assignment below.
